He doesn't know who his father is. Fortunately he was put into the home of a former secret service agent and his wife; they were older and he was the only child there. They never formally adopted him but for all intents and purposes they were his parents. He died when Meredith was 16; she died the following year just before he went to college. He graduated with top honors when he was 21 and applied to be a secret service agent. It was what he was RAISED on. He got in, spent 11 weeks in Glynco, Georgia, at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, learning basic police skills before he went to DC recieving 16 more weeks of training. He was eventually assigned to protect a former government official in Texas. He had a purpose and loved it. He was going to night school, finshing his law degree when he met Amy at the age of 29. He fell head over heels for her; love at first sight sort of thing. Totally gone on her. They married within 3 months and she was pregnant within the month. And then things started to fall apart. Hard. Loudly. Brutually. Amy was only 19 and was not ready for the realities of marriage, much less having a child, and Meredith just wasn't good at it. When Brian was a year old, Amy left while Meredith was at work, leaving Brian alone in the house and divorce papers that only needed his signature on the table. Meredith hasn't been able to find her. He signed the papers. He couldn't fulfil the obligations of his job with a toddler- his job required that he be available 24/7 and able to move at a moment's notice. He could, however, take his ten year retirement and go home and take the Florida bar exam. Which was what he did. He chose the obligation of his son over his obligation to his charge. He wishes he didn't feel so guilty about it. He settled into Tampa and opened an office, practicing Elder Law. He and Brian moved in with Brice.
